What Is a Digital Wallet and How Does It Work? - TheStreet

Cold Storage Idea

Preface: This is a TEST wallet! There are no bitcoins stored here, no will there ever be! (or if there are, they weren't mine!)
TLDR: Scrambled the order of the 24 words using a password, stamped onto 22 GA weldable steel plate. What could go wrong? I feel like I'm overlooking something fairly simple that makes this insecure.
So, I recently got a Ledger Nano S, and have had plenty of time to explore it, generate several wallets (including adding a 25th word for extra security), add them as watch-only addresses into Electrum, or use the Nano S with Electrum to send/receive funds. I feel pretty confident I know what I'm doing, but wanted your opinions on how I should handle long-term key storage. The idea thats been floating around my head for a while has been to stamp it out in metal (I know a few companies offer "build-it-yourself" setups, but I wanted something a bit cheaper). This is the result of my experiment.
"But wait!" I hear you say, "you've just posted your private keys onto the internet! Oh noes! You fool!" Except that I'm sure this sequence of words will be plugged into a handful of wallets to see whats up, only to find out that it doesn't work. Thats because the order of the words is encoded (and no, the upside down A in WASTE is not a clue - that was completely unintentional).
The idea I have is that even listing out all 24 words, assuming they're in some unknown order, that creates a 24! number of possible combinations, which is 6.2e23 possible combinations. For perspective, there are 1.5e48 possible public keys, 7.9e28 private keys, and 9.2e18 grains of sand on the Earth. Needless to say, the random order seems secure enough, provided one can unrandomize the order. To do this, I've selected a fairly simple shift cipher, using a word hopefully only known to the end user - which is the weakest part of the system. However, since this is meant as a fairly secure long-term storage mechanism for people completely computer illiterate, I can't really do much bettecomplex. My hope is that if someone else finds this, they'll try forwards, backwards, every other, every 3rd, diagonal, etc, but never figure out the exact combo. After trying to bruteforce it for a couple days, they'll give up and toss it in the trash.
The cipher works by first writing down the code on a piece of paper (offline to make sure its safer). You then count out the alphabet until you get to the first word of the unscrambled wallet. In this case, my encoding word is TEST (any word is acceptable provided its fairly long - longer the better - up to 23 characters). What you do is starting with where you wrote AMATEUR, you count A, then LATER becomes B. You repeat this until you get to the letter T in TEST, which happens to be ARCTIC. This becomes the first word of the unscrambled wallet, and you cross it off (skipping over it for the remainder of the code). After you find ARCTIC, you start counting again with REPORT being A, RADAR being B, and so on, looping around until you get to the 2nd letter in the password E. This means the 2nd word of the unscrambled wallet is AMATEUR. You repeat this, looping through the list of words and password as many times as necessary. (There's got to be a word for this type of cipher, but I don't have a clue what it's called.)
All of this is stamped onto 22 GA weldable sheet metal, to be stored in a safe or somewhere dry. The idea was to create a fairly survivable long-term storage option where one of my family members could forget about this completely, find it 10 years down the road and have it still be in perfectly readable condition. Since I'm using the BIP39 implemented in the Ledger, finding a word list should be fairly straight forward in the event the metal gets bent/ripped across a word or two. The idea would be that once the user wishes to redeem their coins, this wallet would be completely abandoned for something else secure, so its a 1-time use setup.
Since I know nothing of metalworking, and I'm not the greatest at crypto, I felt like sharing the idea to inspire others, or to get advice on what I may be missing. It seems fairly straightforward, but I feel like there could be some fatal flaw that I'm completely overlooking with this. My biggest concern would be that the individual has to memorize some scramble password (which they'll have to share with me, but thats the nature of the beast and not relevant at this time), which means it could be bruteforced out, or simply forgotten. But I'd prefer a simply forgotten password than to create this "ultra secure wallet" that the first person who accidentally gets hold of it can steal everything from.

Need ideas - absolutely, totally secure place to hide a note, with easy rapid access and attracting little attention to potential thieves

Recently i've started focusing on setting up many financial contingencies - including storing precious metals, cash and foreign currency hidden in my house and in secure off-site locations, as well as overseas bank accounts in various countries, a few different bitcoin wallets, etc. This is still in its planning stages but given enough time I expect to have a considerably long list of places, lockboxes, accounts etc where things are hidden. Long enough that I want to keep it all organized, including account numbers, lockbox combos, passwords, and other incriminating information.
I want to have two copies of this information - one digital, one handwritten. The digital copy will be in a secure password-locked USB. But in case of a lack of electricity or access to a computer, I need a physical, handwritten copy as well. Only trouble is I can't think of a proper way to store it that doesn't somehow compromise everything. I can't keep it in an offsite safety deposit box or other offsite hidden location because i may need rapid access to it. I don't want to put it in my wallet, car, or inside a safe or other secure location in my house because those things are obvious targets for thieves/looters, and anyone who gets access to this document will have access to bank accounts, hidden locations, everything. The best solution I've come up with is to keep it in a very secure, but very unassuming hiding place at my house - like maybe one of those shaving cream cans that is secretly a safe with a combo, stuffed underneath my bathroom sink or something. Something a looter would never look twice at. But even that doesn't feel as secure as I'd like it to be. I wish there was a way to hide it on my person, but I dont want to sew it into any clothes etc that I might not be wearing at a time I need to bolt, and any jewelry, watches etc could get stolen.
Hoping somebody can give me some ideas. Whats the most secure yet easily accessible place to hide something the size of a folded up note?

[uncensored-r/Bitcoin] Some kind person able to answer some questions please?

The following post by JAnCapistani is being replicated because the post has been silently removed.
The original post can be found(in censored form) at this link:

The original post's content was as follows:
Bit desperate here. Not getting help anywhere else.
Have some fiat petrodollars and want to invest in cryptocurrencies such as BTC (BTC proper not BTrash endorsed by hufpo tentacle of the n W o for centralization) and mainly a bunch of alt-coins.
1: What is a good exchange site or sites, if multiple are needed as some do a two-site process, to sign up for that offer a great amount of anonymity, wide range of payment options and coins available, security, fast transaction times, and friendly intuitive user interfaces. L-I-V-I-N (or trying to) in the fasco-communist U.S.S.A still, if that means anything, without a VPN/proxy at the moment.
2: What is a good VPN/proxy combo, if needed? (For ex: HMA vs. Vshield vs. others) Tails? How does T O R work? Had a friend who was into this stuff and saw some markets and other functions of such years ago but haven't seen or spoken to that person in almost two years. Read a redit post or two dated from years ago about ripping out hard drives and finding a LinuxOS computer and using other wi-fis and opening browsers while not connected to the internet, is any of this still necessary or have there been improvements since? Eli5 this semi-newb longtime lurker.
3: What are/is a good hard cryptocurrency wallet(s)? (For ex: Trezr vs. Ledgr vs. others) Not all coins this user is interested in are currently shown to be covered by either of these two main wallets, so if they are added later, will it be through a patch via software or will this user need to buy a new hard wallet (trying to avoid planned obsolescence here)? Eli5 the pros and cons of each iteration of each of these wallet companies please.
Here are the coins this user is interested in HODLing in no particular order of favor or importance: D A S H, M o n e r o, N E O (read something about accumulating G A S with it, what is this process?), V e r t, V e r g e, C a r d a n o/A D A, L T C, and B T C proper, to name a few.
Bonus question: Looking to buy a new computer soon, recommendations with such questions/activities in mind? Laptop vs. desktop? Retailer vs. build-own? Any particular parts or functions if building own or looking in stores to watch out for and why?
Thanks for reading. If anyone can create a comprehensive "roadmap" for this user that's greatly appreciated.
BECAUSE THERE'S A WAHR ON FOR YUH MIND! PEACE, LUV, AND ANRCHY!

P.S. Getting rid of Net Neutrality is most likely a good thing and screw these big social media tyrants!

A tale of two phones (and a 5.0 update)

Actually 3 phones I guess.
My battery life on 4.4.4 was poor... no doubt about it. But I could live with it. Plenty enough for a couple of hours out. If I was going out for the evening (an hour's use on transit there, intermittent use during the evening, an hour's use on transit on way back) I might need a top-up (Anker 3000 was more than enough)
Post-5.0 OTA update the thing was a piece of crap. I had to uninstall the Kindle app because it crashed constantly. My launcher of choice, Nova, was crashing on an hourly basis too - seen no other reports of that so pretty sure it was something to do with the upgrade/settings and not the app itself. Battery life was abysmal - a quick trip to the grocery store (with "Out of Milk" for my grocery list) would take 50% of my battery. If I put the phone in my pocket it constantly felt warm because it was draining so fast. Sometimes when it was on the charger it even said it was discharging LOL.
I backed up what I could (pro-tip: if you've got a Bitcoin wallet on your phone, don't forget to transfer that - that's real $$$!) and did a factory reset from the settings menu.
The thing took over an hour of sitting there with a spinning logo & just saying "erasing". I gave up & tried to reboot it twice but it just ended up back at the "erasing" screen.
Eventually I got to the little spinning dots & it booted into a fresh clean 5.0. I added my gmail account but DIDN'T restore all my apps. I swear I had 400 apps on there - do I really need 5 Twitter apps, 3 file managers, 4 Reddit apps, 5 calculators... sheesh. I've "pared it down" to just the "essential" 140 apps now LOL.
After the reset things are looking amazing. Only 24 hours so far but I've only seen one app crash and Nova is working perfectly. Screen-on battery life is tolerable - I was out last night and, with heavy screen use, including GPS most of the way out and movie watching most of the way back, I just needed a little top up on the way home. Looking at the angle of the battery graph I think it translates to a capacity of about 2.5hrs of screen-on heavy use for a full charge. Not great, but I can just about live with that.
What is astonishing me though is the standby time. With the screen off, the line is basically flat. Since I took the phone off the charger today it's been 4 hours and it's down to 92% - admittedly that's with just 22mins of screen time, but it's the idle time that I'm talking about here.
I know some people have got great experiences from the OTA update and I know some other people are having terrible experiences even after a factory reset. I wish I knew what the secret was... I don't think anybody knows for sure yet.
My gut feel is that it's a combo of things... it's not simply 5.0 because that seems capable of great battery life. I think there's possibly a couple of apps out there that aren't playing nicely with 5.0 and are causing problems with wake locks or something. Maybe they're even triggering the drain inside the OS itself - which obviously makes it harder to spot what it is that's causing the problems.
Anyway, I know we're seeing results all over the map on this. Just wanted to post my experiences in case it helps anyone (esp. about the length of time it took to do a factory reset... that was freaking me out and I couldn't find a report of it taking anybody else that long).
(ETA: unrooted phone, totally stock)
(ETA2: 14 hours before I had to plug the charger in again. During that 14 hours there were 2h40min of screen-on time (mostly fairly gentle stuff - texts, web browsing, reddit, software updates, no GPS). After 14hrs it reached 9% and, mysteriously, powered down. I'm guessing it's not quite calibrated the battery capacity yet. Once it works out that 9%=empty I think things will start to appear a little worse. But still quite amazing as far as I'm concerned)

Questions Answers
Why doesn't Shaq just pay for the game? Why do you need our money? > First, yes, we have the money and could go out and make the game. We could do it solo, in secret, then release next year and cash in on Shaq's name. What we chose to do instead was to create a crowd funding campaign that would allow people to get involved with the actual creation of the game. The pledges aren't for nothing. We're not asking for charity. $15 gets you a half price copy of the game. Anything up from there and it just gets better. We're offering incredible perks like allowing people to voice characters in the game. We're offering people the chance to invest in the game and actually shape how it gets made. Once the campaign closes we'll be creating a private forum for backers where they can pitch their ideas, help us reflect on our own, and truly collaborate on how they want their project to go. That's a lot better than paying full price for a game and sitting on the sidelines, if you ask me.
Thats a good reason, didn't think of that. Link to ampp3d.mirror.co.uk
Hahaha very funny! :)
On a scale of 1 to Slam jammin', how hardcore will the dunks be? Slam jammin to the power of 34.
What piece of advice or info can you give for those that never played the original? Don't ever play the original.
So I'm ahead of the curve? Definitely. Protect your mind and just focus on our Shaq Fu!
I'll play this in the meantime. I'd steer well clear of that too, if I were you!
Next you'll be telling me not to watch Kazaam! Oh, I wouldn't say that. There's a phrase that goes "If a man does not know his past, he will inevitably repeat it." We don't want that now, do we...
I'm gonna go drink some Shaq soda and sit down to a double feature of Steel and Kazaam. You're in for a long night!
I think it's great that Shaq Fu is accepting Digital Currency Quark for in-game transactions making payments very easy. What is your opinion on that? Of course! It's fantastic! It's a real acknowledgement of the fact that the future is pressing upon us. Why hold back? Let's get our hands dirty and be part of making this stuff a real facet of modern transactions. Can I buy my in game purchases with Crypto currency? Hell yes! Quark coins accepted here!
Sweet, Shaq Fu made new fans for sure by accepting Digital Currencies, ShaQuark for the win :)) :)
Just Quarks? Or are there plans for Bitcoins, Litecoins or, just for the laughs, Dogecoins? Just Quarkcoins. It's a coin we have a lot of faith in and we think it's certainly the coin of choice. Their transaction speed and security is extremely good.
Chaos Dunk? Great name. Very possible!
The name comes from Charles Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden RPG. Amazing little game. I just watched the Youtube video. That's a hell of a finishing move!
Link to www.talesofgames.com. Oliver-- if you and the staff haven't seen this, this is where the Chaos Dunk reference comes from. Y'all should check this game out. Awesome!!!
Are there going to be unlockable costumes that give a nod to the big man's many nicknames? I would love to use the Big Aristotle or the Big Shaqtus. Yes! Powered up character modes for the nicknames!
Is Shaq going to be involved in the soundtrack? Either making music or helping choose music? Yes, Shaq WILL be involved in making the soundtrack!
I noticed you said the game will be a beat'em up style like the DMC series, have you ever played Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks? I highly recommend checking that game out for an example of a beat-em up with fighting game roots. Will check that game out.
Will the story have any ties to reality or is it purely fictional in regards to the setting? Shaq has played in many cities throughout his career, will we see any references to his playing days? Purely fictional. This Shaq Fu character is similar but different to the reality of the big man himself.
As a long time Shaq fan and owner of the original Shaq-Fu on SNES, I am really excited about this project. I wish your team the best! Thanks so much for the support!
In the Indiegogo, you said that there will be a powerup for "every nickname Shaq has ever had." Do you have a comprehensive list of Shaq nicknames? Who compiled it? Can we see it? Most of the nicknames were created by Shaq Daddy himself. You can search for Shaq names online and find pretty much all of them. Just imagine powering up into the Shaqtus, the Big Aristotle, or the Big Diesel. It's going to be amazing!
I remember playing the original game as a kid and thinking how horrible the controls are. Are you doing anything to remedy this or are you going to keep the controls somewhat the same? What was your view on the original? As stated in our developer video on the Indiegogo campaign page, we were very unimpressed by the original Shaq Fu. See A Legend Reborn as a total reinvention of the concept. Controls will be so much better. We'll be going with the usual format that gamers are comfortable with. Not too complex. Very intuitive. Smart, easy, fast. That's our plan.
Will Rick Fox be in the game? Will this game be a 1v1 fighting game like the old or an action beat em up like final fight? What kind of fighting game engine will this title have? This is going to be a classic beat 'em up for the new generation of gamers. The engine is still under development but it should feel like DMC in a beat 'em up suit. Rick Fox is not currently signed up to play a role in the game :)
Are any of the playable characters from the original appearing in this remade version? Our vision is to create a whole new set of characters that will have their own legacy, however, we may well be seeing one or two cameos from the original faces.
I'll be pumped to see at EVO, Shaq Fu Grand Finals: Shaq vs Sett Ra. That would be amazing. Absolutely!
I gather that the game will no longer be a 1vs1 fighter but instead it'll be a beat'em up... Correct. The game is going to be a 3D beat 'em up.
You mentioned that you will be creating a private forum for the backers where they can pitch their ideas to the dev team. Will you also be giving them access to alpha or beta testing? Edit: I just saw that $45 gets you access to beta testing. So I guess my only question is whether or not you guys have a timeline for that stage? It depends on the perks they purchased. We will be honouring those perks that list alpha testing as part of the package. Anyone else will be able to see developments and get updates on progress and news from within the dev team. We want to bring people in on the action as much as possible.
Thanks for the response. Would you go on record as saying you want to bring people in on the "Shaqtion?" For the record "We, at Big Deez, want to bring people in on the Shaqtion! Let's Shaqtivate plan Shaq Fu!"
I'm confident y'all have both the Shaqumen and the Shaqsperience to make this game worthy of press Shaqqolades. I salute you, sir.
Since the original was essentially devoid of one what do you have in mind for the plot so far? The plot is going to be epic. Very tongue in cheek. I like to reference Big Trouble in Little China. It knows how to make fun of itself. You can't put a basketball player in a fighting game and make it straight. It's going to be a laugh out loud experience.
What kind of games would you compare this new Shaq-Fu to? Where are you guys drawing your inspiration from? I grew up on some old school classics like Streets of Rage. I used to love games like that. The arcade feel that is lacking in so many game now. I would say that our major inspirations, beyond Streets of Rage and other games like it, are things like DMC, Ninja Gaiden, and Street Fighter. Love the fast paced, highly responsive and satisfying fight styles. It's all about responsiveness. You wanna hit those buttons and feel the combos lashing out on the enemies.
How much DLC are you expecting to add? The crowdfunding page says that it will be worth over $200 total. Is it really going to be worth that much? DLC is going to be a big part of how we want to keep Shaq Fu alive after its initial release. It's not just a 'fire and forget' type of project. We want it to be continually developing and progressing with DLC content to keep it burning. Our backers will have a lot of say in the type of DLC we create but we're talking levels, characters, apparel, weapons, unique items, mods, all kinds of stuff.
Why a SNES Reproduction cart and not Genesis? I see so many Nintedo reproductions, but not Sega. Also, what sort of characters should are VO perk donators going to voice? We went with what seemed to be the most popular. We could certainly consider doing a genesis version if it seems that people really want one. There are going to be so many great characters that will be voice by the VO perk holders. It's really important to us that we give those backers something they can be proud of and that feels like they really are part of history.
Did you have to alter the doorways in order to get shaq into the building you're working in? We just use the loading bay.
I guess now that I think of it, SNES cart of Shaq Fu are rarer than Sega, so SNES is probably best because someone might do fakes down the line of the Sega ones saying they were the limited reproduction and try to sell them when they weren't. That's a good thought. I would be inclined to agree with you.
Did you just reply to yourself? Fishy. Nope.
Will this game acknowledge how bad the first one was? I think there's enough room in the game for a little reflection on painful past lives :)
When are you planning to release the game? And will we see some gameplay anytime soon? Game will be released in 2015. We can't release gameplay footage until we get neck deep into production. A game goes through a multitude of developmental stages before it looks anything like the finished article.
What current fighting game would you say Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn draws the most inspiration from in terms of mechanics? It's difficult to pin it down to just one. I would think of something like DMC, or Ninja Gaiden, in terms of that fast paced whoop ass kind of action. Lots of people have named God Hand as something to refer to. I took a look and it certainly has some similarities to the kind of mechanic we want.
You just referenced God Hand. Shut up and take my money (oh wait you already did) :)
What's it like working with Shaq? Has he made this face yet: Link to www.miscupload.com. Working with Shaq is awesome! He made that face when we told him we could remake Shaq Fu, only a million times better!
How big of a part was Shaq in the creation of the game? Our guys met with Shaq at his house and talked through the kind of project they wanted to make. Shaq is very keen to be involved in the whole process. His humour and personal flavour is going to be woven throughout the game. It's not just about getting his name and face, it's about getting his personality and flare into the project.
Are there any golden cartridges left? Yes. Get over there now and grab one! Link to www.indiegogo.com
Will there be various suits the characters can wear as perks? Shaq has a line of suits for non-Shaq sized people. There are definitely going to be alternative outfits and there's no good reason we can't have something like that. Suggest it in the private backers group once we open the forum!
I'm on student loan money, dude! Maybe for Shaq Fu: 2 Shaq 2 FUrious I will be able to donate. A Shaq Fu racing game. That's an interesting idea... :)
For the voice over perk, what will contributors actually voice? (Ex. Background noises, a character, etc.) Oh, definitely characters! This is not a cheap shot perk where we get people to voice a creaking door. These are going to be lines in the game, spoken by characters.
What type of game is this supposed to be? Will it be a similar format to the original or maybe a beat 'em up style? Beat 'em up style. Classic, solid, awesome gameplay.
Is there any way I can get this put on a t-shirt? Second, will there be a lot of dunking on Charles Barkley involved. Sure. There is a T-shirt perk on Indiegogo: Link to www.indiegogo.com Dunking on Chuck would be a dream come true!
When choosing to make games I played as a kid; what made you choose shaq fu? Was it really at the top of your childhood ignored ips? Basically, tell me why I should give you money to give me a sequel for a game that I originally regretted buying? (For reference, there are tons of snes ips that have been ignored that could be more fun. Primal Rage, Fighters History, hell even Brutal Paws of Fury (A silly game with unique features released the exact same year) would have peaked my interest more that shaq fighting a mummy. [Edit] from your other answrs it looks like you're not even making a fighting game. You're making a beat 'em up..? Now I am even more confused. Hey. So it just so happened that our development company have contacts that work for Shaq. Our CEO, Matt Karch, came up with the idea of working together with Shaq to make a video game. Matt met with Shaq and they both agreed they wanted to do something. After several hours of discussion it seemed that the one idea that everyone kept coming back to was to make a new Shaq Fu. We think that the beat 'em up genre has been somewhat neglected and we wanted to go down that route. Shaq was up for the adventure and we all decided to go for it. That's how the idea came about. This game is going to be nothing like the original. Same name, different animal.
What was the inspiration to bring such an obscure franchise back from the dead? I can't image there was much of a groundswell, even among old-school gamers. We really wanted to make a beat 'em up game, just like the classics. We felt that the genre had been somewhat neglected. We were put in touch with Shaq and discussed the possibility of making Shaq Fu and he was totally down with it. It's not going to be anything like the original. Not a sequel at all. This is simply a chance to do something really creative with someone as great as Shaq.
Will this game be released for next gen only? No. It's guaranteed a PC release, and, if we hit our goal, then it's going to be released on PS4. PS3, Wii U, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
How big a part will Artem be playing in the development of this game? Artem has been a fantastic source of creativity so far. We hope that he'll continue to be a part of this all the way to the end.
Hey, if I pledge money for the game and it meets it's goal, do I get the game for a console, or is it just pc? You'd get it for PC and the console of your choice!
This is awesome! Can't believe you guys are remaking this. Are there still more voice over spots available? Thanks! We're really excited about it. And, yes! As of this moment there are 47 VO perks left before we lock it down.
Do you see Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn being played competitively in the future? Definitely. We are holding a Shaq Fu tournament next year where people can actually compete against Shaq!
Why do you need to crowdfund when, assuming he's in any way involved, you have one of the biggest men with an equal-sized wallet (and dong) seemingly gung-ho about the game? I'm really glad you asked this question.
Are there going to be a lot of catch phrases or references to his real life or basketball career or possibly kazam references? Catch phrases are going to be abundant! It's Shaq after all!
Any Kazam references or is he still sore about that? Kazam is a protected IP, which means we can't just throw it in there. However, Shaq has a great sense of humour and I'm sure he knows how to handle a joke. We'll have to see... :)
Ok thanks i know he has a great sence of humor but when it comes to kazam i wasnt sure... Link to www.youtube.com. :D.
Any other NBA player in the game or will you just stick with Shaq and various monsters? It's a complicated affair getting anyone famous to be part of a game. We're totally open to anything here but it depends on a lot of factors that are out of our control. Watch this space!
Holy shit i was Just playing Shaq Fu last night! Why are you remaking it? If you were playing it last night then you should know exactly why we're remaking it! :) It desperately needs reincarnation in a fully functioning body!
Heard you guys were incorporating Quark into shaqfu? How do you imagine it working? Quark will be a payment option for in-game purchases. We're very excited about it. It will be fast, seamless, and easy to use. We're working closely with Quark who will help us integrate the necessary tech into the game.
In all times ive played over the year, ive never learned any combos or special attacks. I pull out the Snes to show the next generation where games came from. My little niece is 10 and she thinks its all started with the Wii. What platforms are you releasing on? I totally get you. I started out on a ZX81 and had to program all my games! I'm only 31 but when everyone else had the latest consoles, I was on my atari 2600 in 1988. My parents did what they could but that stuff was expensive. I used to play Pitfall, Frogger, Tutenkamun, Battlezone. I know exactly where video games began! We'll be releasing on PC. If we hit our base goal then we'll be going live on PS4, Wii U, Xbox One, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Daaamn, your gaming history is way better than mine! Is the game going to be an arcade game on Psn like the Ducktales re-release? Any other new characters like Shazam or Kobe? PS.. also on Steam? It's definitely going to be a digital purchase on the various gaming platforms. Characters like Shazam and Kobe are intellectual property which means, as much as we may want to, that we can't just throw them in. We have a lot of great ideas and we're going to try and find a way to get all the good stuff in the game!
Well thanks man i look forward to playing! got a price point yet? Thank you! You can grab the game right now on Indiegogo for $15 while the campaign is still running. When it's released it will be priced at around $30.
You watch the Power Rangers growing up? I did.
The Green/White Ranger, Jason David Frank is going to be in an episode coming up. I'm pumped. Cool! I remember him as being the most serious. Didn't he have a pony tail?
I'm a big fan of very difficult, very brutal games, right from the start. Is Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn going to have an excruciatingly difficult option from the beginning of the game? IE will we get a "Choose Your Difficulty" screen that says, "Kobe, Medium, Hard, Shaq" choices, maybe with "The Big Aristotle" mode as an unlockable, ultra-difficult setting? I love this idea. We were always going to have lots of difficulty settings but the names you've chosen are very witty! There will absolutely be a mode for people with a death-wish!
Do you intend to make the player vs player combat be balanced for competitive tournament play? Yes.
Now how do you guys really think you can make a better game then the absolute classic that is Shaq Fu? Well... let's just say we have a gut feeling.
Any hot babes in the game? I kinda wanna see the return of Kaori from the original Shaq Fu. Kaori has been requested a number of times. She was a cool character. We're definitely considering bringing one or two faces back from the grave but we've got some fantastic ideas lined up for the new cast. We think people will love them.
Are there any secrets hidden in the game that you can tell us about? Secrets... afraid not. Got to keep 'em secret. All I can say is that there ARE secrets, and one or two of them are BIG!
I just want to know if Shaq will eventually have to fight Barkley as a boss sometime in the game. That would be telling... :)
Is shaq aware of the game? Shaq is very much aware of the game. It was partly his idea.
So you got to work with shaq? So jelly. :)
I had a question about one of the perks on Indiegogo. I wanted to pledge $35 for the DLC and exclusive character, and I wanted to know if it comes with the digital trading card, or do I have to purchase that seperately? You'll get the trading card too!
I saw that your Facebook page is giving people a chance to meet Shaq if they like it. Really? Of course!
So we just like the page and we get picked randomly to meet him? If so, that's awesome. You got it!
1: Any plans for NBA stars to make cameos or anything? It'd be cool to see some other Dream Team players make appearances. Plans: It's definitely possible. As you can imagine, there are certain negotiations that would have to take place to implement that. We are open to everything.
2: Dunk special moves. This isn't a question. Make it happen. Dunk special moves. Duh! Of course! :)
Yeah, in all seriousness, it looks like they care what we think and want. So that's pretty sweet. Definitely. We're always listening to what our backers, and the gaming community, want from our game. We really believe we can make this game in a new and fantastic way by collaborating with the people who will actually buy and play it. We really believe that gamers know what they want and don't want to be spoon fed the latest fads.
Not really a question, but a comment. Reading this thread makes me very happy that I spent a significant portion of my tax return in order to be a part of this project. No regrets. Let's make this game be amazing. You're the man! Thanks a lot for your support!
You should have a special move called "Green Egg and Ham It" :)
I pledged 50 dollars. No question, just wanted to say I'm actually really looking forward to the game, it looks good. :) Thanks so much for the support!
Have you met shaquille o'neal yet, and if you have, how astounded were you by his sheer size? I haven't but Matt Karch has, more than once, and he's a big guy. I'd say Matt was pretty damn astounded.

Questions Answers
Let's say someone was looking for a stay at home computer job, would you recommend doing what you do? Is it something you can hop into, or is it something a lot of time must be put into before considerable income comes? You handle risk and pressure well, and you don't let your emotions guide your decision-making. Professional Poker and TCG players often develop this skillset.
You have experience working with stocks, bonds, derivatives, foreign exchange, or other financial instruments. If you have a strong mathematical background, that would also likely fulfill this.
You can invest significant capital into trading while remaining financially secure if it all suddenly vanishes.
You are capable of constantly monitoring a situation, waking up in the middle of the night if an alarm goes off, etc. It requires serious dedication.
You are good at keeping up with news, understanding market psychology, and "feeling" shifts in attitude and perception among other market participants.
Of those, I'd be most cautious if you don't meet no. 3. Going bust is a real possibility--day-trading a volatile commodity is inherently extremely high-risk. Nos. 2 and 4 are the easiest to learn or force through routine. No. 1 requires a person who approaches things in an emotionally detached manner. No. 5 is something that comes with investing enough time.
Second question: I'm answering this after that big block of text because this answer will come off like a get-rich-quick scheme. Yes, you can hop into it very quickly, and you can start making very high profits very quickly. I put in a small initial investment to test the waters, and made 10% on it in a few days. If you have the right skillset, composure, and resources, yes. It is a potentially very lucrative and exciting stay-at-home job. It is not for everyone, though.
As much as it would be beneficial for me (being in the industry and all), to tell everyone it's easy and that it will help them provide for themselves I feel that people need to know the real risks that are involved. Regardless, that's all a little irrelevant. We're not playing the house, and we're not flipping coins. We're playing other investors, and we're making actual decisions. You keep saying things like "98% lose money" and "Go onto any FOREX forum, and you will see from the users posts that they pretty much all lose money" but you don't back it up. Cool, yeah, it's a zero-sum game with a rake: a little more than half of the players will lose. That's expected. They'll probably complain about it, too, huh?
Retrospect can have a very positive effect. Got any real account trading statements I can have a look at? Let's see how fast you can come up with excuses not to show me ;) I only have and need one: I have chosen not to disclose my personal valuation for privacy reasons. Same reason I've had all along. I instead publicly disclose my trades, as they happen, on my website. The posts are timestamped, and the ones that are the start of a position contain the price I entered at. Go check the posts, then go check the charts, then go check my archive. But feel free to continue to arbitrarily call my credibility into question--that makes your argument better!
What leverage do you use? In Australia the leverage is typically 100:1, perhaps that's why your not seeing how risky I deem it to be. First, our argument so far has had nothing to do with risk. Second, I told you I am leveraged 2.5:1, two posts ago. Third, you realize I'm trading Bitcoin, not ForEx, correct? And that no one in their right mind would offer 100:1 leverage on Bitcoin due to its volatility?
What's your last year's hourly salary? A year ago I was finishing up college and extricating myself from the TCG business I'd co-founded. I took very little in take-home pay over that period, but kept part ownership of the continuing business. Money isn't just about the number on your bank account--it's also about residual future income.
How many hours a week are you typically on a computer? On a computer, probably 50-55, if you add in time I spend on my phone, I'd say 65-70. Day trading takes constant watchfulness. I imagine it's like an easier version of taking care of a baby.
What are your favorite to sources of news besides waiting for it to get to the front/hot page of /Bitcoin when it's several hours old? I have an IFTTT for /BitcoinMarkets and /Bitcoin that notifies me early on about some posts.
What's the weirdest thing about your mom? She started a bookselling business online in her 50s and makes more money than me.
Or.
She's a little old lady who loves gadgets and technology.
What are your thoughts on Dogecoin and other bitcoin competitors? Do you think any have staying value? LTC.
DOGE.
NXT.
VTC.
Coins that offer something different or that have a strong community to them can be valuable prospects.
LTC is the first-mover scrypt coin - DOGE has the most non-techies interested in its success and is spreading quickly as a result - NXT is a cool generation two coin that has a lot of features BTC doesn't have - VTC is ASIC-resistant
Ok, let me spell it out to you. The retail forex market only makes up 5% of the total forex markets liquidity. The other 95% is from hedge funds and institutions. Therefore, 99% of the retail market losing their money is very possible, as that only makes up 4.95% of the whole market. Is it possible that 4.95% of the market generally loses? Yes. How is that infeasible? Nope. That's a false equivalence. It is possible that 4.95% of the market loses. It is not feasible, that, say, 99% of people with blue eyes lose. What, exactly, in empirical terms, is the difference between retail investors and hedge/institutions that causes this INCREDIBLE disparity? Would you care to respond to my above empirical argument that demonstrates that a zero-decision system is flipping a losing coin? Do you consider it feasible for 99% of people playing a 45-55 game to lose?
Are there options and/or futures markets for Bitcoin? Not really yet, but there will be more prominent ones soon. I hear about a new one pretty regularly, it seems, but nothing that seems truly legitimate has come out. I'm certainly excited for them, though.
Eventually, once Mr. Lawsky and co. get things sorted out, I'm certain we'll see a big-name investment bank start offering them.
From the time you started trading until today, what is your overall percentage return? In USD, my percentage return calculated from investment to current valuation is about 300% over a little more than 2 months.
In BTC, my percentage return calculated from investment to current valuation is about 425% over a little more than 2 months.
Using my average per-coin buy-in price, if I had just bought-and-held, I would have lost about 27% of my initial investment value.
Ben, i told you I'd be here and asking about Hearthstone first. If there's one class that needs a bit of tuning, up or down, which is it and why? I think Mage needs basic, class-level tuning. I'm not sure what needs to be done exactly, but I don't like what the Mage class power does to gameplay. I've thought some about how different it would be if it could only hit minions, and I'd want to know if Blizzard had tried that out. The Mage power is too versatile, and over the long-term I think it will prove to be problematic.
What's your favorite card? Lord Jaraxxus is my favorite card. He has a truly legendary feel to him when you play him, but your opponent can still win, even though he's very powerful.
So, where do you think we go from here? I'm currently short, but I don't expect to be so for a lot longer. I don't think we'll get past 550. I also don't expect this drop to hold on for a really long time.
I haven't seen a good, substantive rationale for what the MtGox situation really has to do with Bitcoin price. Yes, it looks bad, it certainly doesn't help with our legitimacy, but is it really worth the incredible price declines we continue to see? I don't think so. I think we are seeing these impressive declines because the price on MtGox (which is a reflection of trust in MtGox relative to Bitcoin price, not just Bitcoin price) has been declining heavily. I don't expect it to continue forever, especially not with things like the Winkdex and the accompanying ETF launching.
MtGox is basically dead to me, for now at least. The sooner everyone stops paying attention to it, the sooner we can all get back on track, which I, for one, will be quite happy about.
Do you think that it's a good thing for a game when the developers of that game discourage certain playing styles (e.g. mill decks or decks that try to win in unconventional manners) whether in hearthstone, MTG, or other TCGs? It can be. I don't want the developers metaphorically over my shoulder outlawing strategies, but I don't mind if the strategies that are "less fun" for your opponent (Draw/Go, Mill, or Hard Combo from MTG, for example) are also less powerful. Most players prefer a game where the best decks are also among the most fun, because it means that they are playing against fun decks more often. Clearly the 2-cost 3/3 will be played most often. If you fix this by making both 2-cost guys 2/2s or 3/3s, or by making one a 2/3 and the other a 3/2, then you've done something--but it's not that interesting. If you instead make the 2-cost 2/2 have text that says "While you control the 3-cost 3/3, this gets +2/+2" and you give the 3 cost 3/3 text that says "While you control the 2-cost 2/2, it has Taunt" you now have more complex cards that reward players for doing something other than just playing the best stand-alone card.
Which do you think is a better option to encourage diversity in TCGs; improving/buffing cards/decks that hardly see any play versus weakening/nerfing cards that are overwhelmingly played? This is obviously a very simplistic example, but I hope it makes the point. Games are more fun when you give players more relevant choices: buffing and nerfing cards tends not to do that as well as promoting synergies does.
Where/what is the actual money behind bitcoin? If it does exist. You might need to rephrase your question for me to understand what you're asking. If you're asking why a Bitcoin has value, the answer is the same as any other good: because someone is willing to pay it.
If you're asking why someone is willing to pay that amount, my answer would be utility.
I just got started on Bitfinex (using your referral link) and am a little intimidated. What types of trades would I recommend I try as a beginner? From there, just keep careful watch, and see what happens. Be neutral and objective toward your own hypothesis, just like in science. Don't be biased by your hopes, be focused on the reality.
So far I've only done a liquidity swap offer to try it since it seemed (nearly) risk free. Have you done any liquidity swap or is it too low in profit? If I'm not going to be able to check my computer for a day or two, or I'm uncertain of what's going to happen the next few days, I do use the liquidity swap function. It's actually very profitable, relative to traditional investments. And you're right, it is low-risk. I'm a fan. Good job selecting it if you were intimidated--that's a good place to start. As far as actually starting trading, do science. Start with a hypothesis. If you were up at 5 AM today when MtGox published their announcement, a good hypothesis might have been something like: "This announcement is going to be a blow to their credibility, and might panic the markets. We'll probably drop by some amount as a result." Invest based on it, figure out around what price you want to take profits, and at what price you'll cut your losses and get out. Stick to those determinations unless something substantive changes. The time you tell yourself you can afford to not close your position because it will "rebound" back to where you want is also the time you lose your shirt.
Is it true that you like Balloons? No, I <3 them.
Lol to the question about your mom... Ben, from my understanding Bitcoin is anonymous, does this mean that you can avoid taxation when receiving payment? Bitcoin isn't anonymous. That's actually a common misconception. It's actually pseudonymous, like Reddit. You end up with an online identity--a wallet address--that you use with Bitcoin.
If I walk up to you on a street corner and buy Bitcoin with cash, then I'm pretty much anonymous. If I buy it from a large institution like Coinbase or some other company, they will have records of the address my Bitcoin was bought for. As a result, you can trace them down, generally speaking.
As for avoiding taxation, that's a general no.
What do you think Bitcoin's biggest hurdle is and how do you think it can be overcome? Are there any misconceptions about Bitcoin that you think people have? The biggest hurdle for Bitcoin to overcome is governments. Governments have a variety of reasons not to want an alternative currency. We seem to have done pretty well on that front here in the US, but for other countries (China) that is not the case. Past that, the other major hurdle is something I consider an inevitability: consumer adoption. Business adoption has
